Habitat:
Freshwater and terrestrial habitats
Milestones:
Eukaryotic, Tissues, Enclosed body cavity
Anatomical Features:
Radula- tongue like structure used by mollusks for feeding.
Have large cavity for breathing and excretion
Complex digestive system that consists of mucus and cilia.
Eating and Fleeting:
Most are herbivores that feed on algae. Very few are predators, like cephalopods, which use tentacles and jaws to acquire food.
Symmetry:
Bilateral
Mobility:
The underside contains a muscular foot, which can excrete mucus to aid in movement.
Reproduction:
Most reproductive systems rely on external fertilization. Mollusks using external fertilization remain the same sex all of their life, while some use the process of internal fertilization and/or are hermaphrodites.
Development:
Most basic larvae is a trocophore. New tissue grows in a ring around the center, pushing the tuft and anus farther apart is it grows. Eventually, the larvae sink to the bottom of the ocean and metamorphoses into adult form.
Examples:
-Tonicella lineata
-Cornu Aspersum
-Haliotis asinina
Other Information:
Mollusks are the largest marine phylum.
